My name is Ashley Teague, and I am thrilled to be teaching third grade at St. Barnabas Catholic School. I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School in 1993. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Auburn University at Montgomery, a Bachelor of Arts in History from The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a Master of Education from The University of West Alabama.
I was inspired to return to school to pursue my Masters in Education after working as a second grade reading and phonics interventionist in the Vestavia Hills School System. Because of this experience, reading and phonemic awareness are extremely important components of my instruction. While in graduate school, I worked at Saint Luke’s Day School, where I was a pre-K and 5K teacher. During my schooling, I learned the educational concept of “teaching to the whole child”. Children grow and change so much during the elementary grades; it is imperative that we as teachers teach our students not only academics, but how to be good citizens, good Christians, and contributing members of the community.
I am married to my wonderful husband, Dylan, and we have three children, Will (15), Ruth Ann (13), and Ella Kate (4). My family and I attend St. Mary’s on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church, where I have been a member of the parish choir for over 20 years. I love spending my free time with my family and friends, reading a good book, traveling, and attending Auburn football games…War Eagle!
I am so excited to be back in the Catholic Schools, and am honored to have the opportunity to teach your children.
