Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Krystal Dennis and I am elated to teach your child in a supportive, faith based environment such as St. Barnabas Catholic School. I am a proud graduate of the historic Miles College (2012), here in Birmingham, Alabama, receiving a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education (K-6). During my matriculation, I participated in multiple educational clubs and workshops such as The Alabama Reading Initiative and as a member of the prestigious Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education.
I believe every child is a unique individual who deserves a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. With these necessary tools, students would grow up to become successful and prosperous citizens in today’s society.
In our Kindergarten class we follow Zaner-Bolser’s, the Superkids Reading Program for the first semester and the Superkids Club Reading Program for the second semester. This program is a fun and innovative way to help our students learn to read proficiently through letter writing, associating letters with sounds, and blending letter sounds to form words and sentences. We incorporate the Superkids Program into other subject areas as well. I look forward to a new exciting year with your Kindergartener.
